INTRODUCTION

Part of our profession is learning the science of hair. In beauty school, the day of the seminar and any subsequent education on the subject is almost always dreaded. It’s boring.
But is it?
Not when you’re the one who wants to know everything there is to know about hair and its science.

If you’re ready to learn, we’re ready to teach. If you have questions, get the answers. Find out what’s happening inside hair from before we even have hair, and you’ll learn that hair science can be exciting, entertaining and very sexy.

Hair has its own language. The word for hair in old German was hār. In Dutch and in current German it‘s haar, In Swedish it’s hår and in English it’s hair. Regardless of how it’s pronounced, its roots are in the German word hēra.

Hair is a natural fiber, one of the best to work with because of its incredible properties. It can carry weight, transport liquids and it function as a strong protector of the skin.. Without our hair we would exist with approximately 5 million less muscles. We’d also have trouble regulating body temperature.
As a hair expert, you deal with several different structures and conditions. You want and need to know what and why. You need to become an amateur Trichologist.

The branch of dermatology that scientifically studies the health of hair and scalp is called Trichology. Our chemists in Japan and Germany work closely with trichologists, to gain access to the latest scientific knowledge. Our marketing and education departments conduct intense research with stylists, platform artists and end consumers in order to know the latest demands and product needs. Consultation and co-creation with leading education experts and our global organization determine product performance.

All so we create the best for hair, for stylists and for clients.
